Steve Wozniak’s solution for a Safari freeze: “Reinstall!”

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc. appeared on the reality show Dancing With the Stars last night.  Following his performance which yielded the lowest score of the night, host Tom Bergerson made small talk in his interview by asking what he should do if Safari freezes.  After brief hesitation, Wozniak quickly blurted out “Reinstall!”.

I hate Safari. Half years ago German computer magazine (Computer Bild) made a test of browsers. (test platform MS Windows). And the results:
    1. Firefox 3 (powerful browser)
    2. Opera 9.3 (speed, widgets, but no so many plug-in as in Firefox)
    3. Netscape navigator 9(last release, based on Firefox, good stability)
    4. Internet explorer 7 (only average speed)
    5. Safari (slow, not feature rich)
So don’t ever try to use Safari, even if it shipped with i-tunes. IE7, which is worst browser (not including IE6 or older) in standarts performed better, than Safari

I agree…Safari (for windows) really sucks. Horrible and ugly looking default ’skin’.

Very poor memory management. Try going to a memory intensive site and watch the RAM build up. Close some tabs and the memory does not get released! I had built up 450,000K of RAM use in one session! Closed all tabs expect google homepage and not 1K was released back to windows!

Stupid (not to mention Apple keylogging my address bar) auto-complete. Don’t let your kids use Safari because it will auto-complete to porn sites… nice job Safari!

All that AppleCrapWare that they want installed whenever you install anything Apple–ala itunes bloatware.

Haha, I just went to ‘prefrences’ and it shut itself down! Wow, guess I need to “reinstall” haha! Seriously, why anyone would use Safari on a windows based system is beyond me!

    On a Mac… I guess it’s fine…I wouldn’t know, I never use them… did they ever come out with a 2-button right-click mouse???

Safari is absolutely pathetic, but how can you expect more? Every bit of “software” that Apple makes to run on a PC is either inexplicably huge, memory-hogging, unstable, draconian, etc. as well as a bunch of words you might not want on your website. I honestly think that Apple INTENTIONALLY makes their PC-based software horrible as either 1. a way to try to get people to buy Mac’s (what?) or 2. they hate PC’s and wrote all this software for them as a joke. There is no reason to use any Mac software on a PC, as there are much better alternatives for all of them. Just makes me kinda wish I had a Zune instead of an iPod. BTW I own a Mac G4 also, believe me I am not a mac hater. But their “PC software department” is a complete joke and shouldn’t even exist.

Running Safari on a PC is like Ferrari designing an engine to run in a VW Bug. The engine maker might be great, but they would be stuck with the limited size and capability of the car. It have a Ferrari engine, but in the end it’s still a VW.

Better to keep the Ferrari engines IN the Ferrari.

What is the damn point of this site?
I was a firefox user for long time until I switch to mac os and used safari and..

MAN! I love it! Its the faster browser I have used in my life, dont matter the amount of RAM.

Simply, you dont like, dont use it, but wast your life to support a damn stupid site like is is pointless.

It have lost it objectivity and informative sense.

And yet, safari is better than other browsers, I found it perfect for OSX, it even render the colors perfectly. Firefox and other browsers have an horribly image render engine and font smoothing, also safari have a much better performance and cache/buffering engine.

So, what is the damn point of this site: NOTHING.

Also the new S4 still in beta phase, and to me, for a beta its a incredible software.

Personally and nothing will make me change my mind.

I gather this is about Safari sucking on Windows. Well, I am here to say, it’s official. Safari 4 sucks on Mac OS X. After months and several updates, Safari 4 is still a wild ride to the spining rainbow beachball of death. Guaranteed to lock up your system within minutes of usage sometimes even when it’s just sitting around not doing anything.

Well, Apple, I cry Uncle but unlike Wozniak, I just reset the default browser to Opera. Opera loads much much faster and doesn’t freeze 3 times an hour. Yes, I use Firefox 3 also, but it’s slower load so not so much fun if you just want to check a link quickly. Of course, because of Safari I am in the habit of not keeping the browser running because Safari running all day is guaranteed to memory creep till it’s sucked all your RAM, that was certainly true of Safari 3 and version 2 before it. I can’t keep version 4 open long enough to know if it belongs in the memory leak hall of shame as well.

Agreed with Ken. Safari started to suck real bad on Mac as well. I’ve switched over to Chrome, haven’t looked back since.

Showing once again that there is NOTHING special about osx’s supposedly amazing security. Funny how when Apple tries to write a browser for windows they are suddenly less effective at avoiding crashes OR security flaws. They will of course blame it on windows, but security flaws come from browser holes 95% of the time. Proof of this is that they usually just patch the browser in those instances. Of course mactards will still try to say it’s the fault of the os, but let’s face it, the brain washed sheep only see it from one point of view that protects the company they worship…

That said I tried Safari, and Wow, just wow, it was awful. I had forgotten how bad it was when I used it earlier. Someone said Safari (for windows) wasn’t any good, but Sorry. Safari isn’t any good PERIOD.
