Top Ten Negative Things Gina Trapani Said About Safari 4

Gina Trapani from Lifehacker recently did a review of Safari 4 entitled “A Hands On Look at Safari 4’s (Crashy) Eye Candy“.  She explains how although Apple is claiming that they’re “leading the way with innovation”, the latest version of Safari offers very few features that haven’t already been done in other browsers (namely, Chrome) a long time ago.

Here are the top ten negative things that she said in that review, in quote format:

  1. “… all things we’ve used before in other browsers.”
  2. “… been-there-done-that feature …”
  3. “Another page stolen from Chrome’s playbook …”
  4. “… you’ll probably find this change pretty disconcerting …”
  5. “… this is the one visual effect where Chrome” … “actually does a nicer job.”
  6. “… Safari 4 reminded me several times that it’s not kidding about that “beta” label.”
  7. “Safari 4 is still super-crashy …”
  8. “… it’s got a long way to go in the stability department.”
  9. “… not the fastest kid on the block …”
  10. Last but certainly not least, “Safari 4 Is Not Ready for Everyday Usage”

Safari Not Even Mentioned in Lifehacker’s Latest Browser Speed Tests

Safari has come to a point where it isn’t even a factor in the browser speed tests against Firefox, Chrome, and Opera.  The test criteria: Boot-up and warm loading, tab loading, Javascript, DOM/CSS, and memory use.  Safari’s sorry score put it only ahead of the expired version of Opera.

Steve Wozniak’s solution for a Safari freeze: “Reinstall!”

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc. appeared on the reality show Dancing With the Stars last night.  Following his performance which yielded the lowest score of the night, host Tom Bergerson made small talk in his interview by asking what he should do if Safari freezes.  After brief hesitation, Wozniak quickly blurted out “Reinstall!”.
